The Darker Side of Porn

Updated: Jan 1, 2022

Porn is one of those main spiritual diseases that get in the way of men and women becoming who they were created to be. Over the last couple of weeks on our podcast, we've discussed this subject in great detail. This week, we wrap up the subject of porn by unveiling the darker side of it -- sex trafficking.

Porn is a market that is affected by the law of supply & demand just like any market. Economics teaches us that the supply of a good or service is directly influenced by the demand for it. Based on some statistics of porn, porn is indeed big business. The global revenue for porn is almost $100 billion, with $13 billion coming from the United States.

According to Webroot Cybersecurity, every day:

  • Over 30 new pornographic videos are created

  • 2.5 billion emails containing porn are sent or received

  • 68 million search inquiries

  • Over 40 million Americans regularly visit porn sites

  • Hundred of thousands are classified as "porn addicts"

Furthermore, porhub, the world's most popular porn site, reported in 2017

  • 28.5 billion annual visits to the website

  • 81 million daily average visits

  • 25 billion searches performed

  • 50,000 searches per minute

  • 800 searches a second

  • 4,052,542 videos uploaded

  • 68 years worth of content.

All of this demand for porn has led to the human trafficking industry which generates about $150 billion annually. There are an estimated 40.3 million people enslaved globally through human trafficking, 79% are sexually exploited.

What can we do in the face of such a huge problem?

We can choose to not be indifferent about the problem. We can help to raise awareness and donate to organizations that are involved in the prevention and awareness of sex trafficking. Some reputable organizations include

We can also fight to end our porn habits by taking practical steps such as installing accountability software on our devices. A good one is covenant eyes. You can join a community of individuals who can hold you accountable, or you can even reach out to us on our website -- thejourneyy.com for encouragement and support. The most important thing we can do is to strengthen our relationship with God.

For It is by tasting, and enjoying God that the hold of sin and lust is broken in our lives.
