Is Porn Harmless?

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

"Babylon the Great" has fallen...for the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her."

We started this week talking a little bit about our personal struggles with porn from a very early age. This upcoming week's podcast will delve deeper into the subject of whether porn is a harmless vice, or something that is damaging to us spiritually.

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:18

There are many scriptures that warns us of the dangers of sexual immorality. Although the Bible doesn't specifically mention pornography, since technology during those times was not advanced for that, it does have a lot to say about sexual immorality.

For instance, 1 Corintihans 6:13 talks about the body not being meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord. 1 Peter 2:11 warns us to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against our soul. We learn from scripture that we were not meant to use our bodies in a sexually immoral way. We are also warned to flee sexual immorality because it is something that directly impacts our souls. All other sins we commit are outside of our body. If we steal, rob, cheat, it doesn't affect us in the same way that sexual sins affect us.

“Babylon the Great has fallen and has become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean bird. For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her.” - Revelations 18:2-3

God does not want us to use sex in an immoral way because of how He designed sex and the purpose for which he made it. God designed sex as a way for lovers to be intimate with one another. It was designed to be between one man and one woman in a covenant relationship. In other words, God wants sex to be reserved for marriage. Sex is something that allows us to open up our souls and the core of who we are to our lover. When we are engaged in casual sex, we are forming soul ties with the people whom we sleep with. Whatever demons they may carry, we become vulnerable to, and open up ourselves to them.

From the scripture in Revelations 18:2-3 we learn the cause of the fall of the great Babylon was "fornication" Babylon became inhabited by demons as a result of fornication. Similarly, we become dwelling places of all types of spirits when we are sexually immoral. People carry with them all sorts of spirits and we become vulnerable to these spirits whenever we are involved in casual sex.

Tune in this week, November 8th 2021 to our podcast, where we will discuss this topic further, using scriptures to shed further light on the subject, and discussing statistics and the state of affairs in the world to illustrate whether porn is actually a harmless vice or spiritually damaging. #ispornharmless
